Wavelength (angstroms) an Optical Survey of the Position Error Contours of Unidentfied High Energy Gammma-ray Sources at Galactic Latitude B> |20 @bullet |

چکیده
We present results from our optical survey of the position error contours (“error boxes”) of unidentified EGRET sources at mid to high Galactic latitude. It is our intention to search for potential blazars that may have been missed in the original identification process of the three EGRET Catalogues and supplementary publications. We have first searched the error contours of unidentified sources at b > |20◦| for flat spectrum radio sources using the NASA Extragalactic Database (NED). For each such radio source found we conducted optical searches for counterparts using the Palomar 60-inch telescope, and University of Wyoming’s 2.3 and 0.6 m telescopes. Many of the radio sources have plausible optical counterparts, and spectroscopy will be conducted at a later date to determine which of these sources are quasars or active galaxies. Results show thats several sources are optically variable, and/or have flat or inverted radio to millimeter spectra and are thus potential blazars. Subject headings: gamma rays: observations

HIGH LATITUDE GAMMA RAYS ASSOCIATED WITH VIRGO
A more detailed analysis is made of the energy spectrum of the diffuse component of extragalactic gamma rays over the range of 0.3- 10 GeV, obtained fromthe EGRET instrument at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The derived excess energy spectrum of high galactic latitude, b > 60°, using intercept method shows that it is correlated with Virgo cluster (over lsr) and average Virgo intensity i...
متن کاملThe Hamburg/RASS Catalogue of optical identifications Northern high-galactic latitude ROSAT Bright Source Catalogue X-ray sources
We present the Hamburg/RASS Catalogue (HRC) of optical identifications of X-ray sources at highgalactic latitude. The HRC includes all X-ray sources from the ROSAT Bright Source Catalogue (RASS-BSC) with galactic latitude |b| ≥ 30◦ and declination δ ≥ 0◦. In this part of the sky covering∼10 000 deg the RASS-BSC contains 5341 X-ray sources. For the optical identification we used blue Schmidt pri...

متن کاملXMM – Newton and ESO observations of the two Unidentified γ – ray Sources 3 EG J 0616 − 3310 and 3 EG J 1249 − 8330 ⋆
The limited angular resolution of γ–ray telescopes prevents a direct identification of the majority of sources detected so far. This is particularly true for the low latitude, probably galactic, ones only 10 % of which has been identified. Most counterparts of the identified low–latitude γ–ray sources are Isolated Neutron Stars (INS), both radio–loud and radio– quiet (Geminga–like) objects, whi...
متن کاملMultiwavelength Study Of Two Unidentified γ-Ray Sources
Most counterparts of the identified low–latitude γ–ray sources are Isolated Neutron Stars (INSs). Since INSs are characterized by an extremely high value of fX/ fopt , a systematic X–ray/optical coverage of the fields of unidentified low–latitude γ–ray sources is the best way to unveil INS counterparts of unidentified sources. Since the low–latitude sources are heavily affected by the interstel...
